ABOUT US
The beautiful morning of 15th July, 1972 was so important for the people of Sonori to go down in history with golden letters as Gram Vikas Vidyalaya, Sonori was established on the same day. Due to the availability of secondary education in the village itself, the students were relieved from the 6 km journey from Sonori to Chandur Bazaar.
The then MLA Late Bhayyasaheb Deshmukh, Talvelkar had set up Babarao Education Society and opened a school at Talvel, Jawala, Shahapur, Ghatladki with the view that even the last person in the society should not be deprived of education.
Mr. Malhadrao Deshmukh desired to establish such an ideal educational institution at Sonori. He expressed his gratitude to Bhayyasaheb Deshmukh and testified that all the villagers are ready to help him. The efforts of both the great personalities were successful within the stipulated period. For this, first of all, Late Pralhadrao Dada Deshmukh provided his own space for class 8 and office. When the 9th class opened in 1973, there was a shortage of space. Manikrao Radke, the then president of Farmer’s “Sewa Sahakari Sanstha” (co-operative society), came forward with a helping hand and gave warehouse of the society to fill the class, half year class was filled there.
When space became scarce, the school began to feel that it should have its own building. When the question arose as to who would provide the land for the building, a helping hand came from Malhadrao Deshmukh's sister Smt. Dwarkabai Tivasekar. She donated a 3 acre farm to Babarao Education Society to build Gram Vikas Vidyalaya. Four classrooms were built on this place and classes started filling up. The school also got classes 5-7 from Z.P. Then again 4 classrooms, auditorium, children's playground, tree plantation, fence, water tank, gate, toilet and all other necessary facilities became available. After that a well equipped school building, adequate classrooms, office, laboratory, library were constructed. Many educational activities are implemented. Various Sports Competition Eloquence, Singing, Painting, Competitive Examination Various Workshops, Cookwelfare, Bhausaheb Jayanti Utsav, Meritorious student hospitality, Cultural Program is a sincere effort to create all-round students through various activities.
That is why today the school has become digital and the remaining physical facilities like kitchen shed, girls toilet had been made available.
